The Standard model includes 12 sensors.

This is generally suitable for up to 750mm Diameter (2,400mm Circumference) sized trees.

The Arbotom® sonic tomograph is a highly effective device for analysing the internal structure of trees and identifying tree root locations. Often used in combination with the Resistograph R650, The Arbotom is utilised in advanced tree risk assessment (level 3 assessment) applications by experienced certified/qualified arborists, forestry research, and material analysis.

Fields Of Application

The Arbotom® sonic tomograph (stress wave tomograph) is an instrument for tree risk assessment and wood quality evaluation. It provides an impression of the inner condition of a tree.

When used in combination with the new Arboradix™ root detection sensor, it can also detect tree roots.

Fast And Efficient

An experienced technican can install the Arbotom® and complete a 2-dimensional sonic tomography measurement within around 10 minutes.

Method

Specially developed stress-wave-timing sensors are placed at locations in the wood on the same plane, at the stem base primarily put on the buttresses, in order to represent the geometry of the tree cross-section.

These sensors are then tapped with a hammer and the data (measured time of flight) is transferred to a computer for collection and analysis. The green parts of the resulting graph represent the intact and load carrying parts of the cross-section, allowing to determine the loss in load bearing capacity due to possible defects such as wood decay.

Software

The Arbotom® software includes many available modules including 2D, 3D, Image Overlay, Mechanical Analysis, Stastistics Analysis, Sensor Positioning, Batch Reporting, Relative Tree Safety Analysis, and Simulated Pruning (included in the “Arbotools” suite).

Different Arbotom models are equipped with different software modules. Please check the features list to determine which Arbotom model is most suitable for your needs.

Arbotom Sensor

The Arbotom® sensors are interchangeable and can be installed at multiple angles as needed. The new sensor has an improved grip for tightening.

Aerial Measurements

When necessary, Arbotom® measurements can be carried out by tree climbing.  The sensors and battery pack are lightweight and can easily fit in a backpack.  Extended bluetooth technology allows for communication between the Arbotom® system up in the tree and the computer on the ground.

Mechanical Analysis

After completing a tomography measurement, the next important question is how much load carrying capacity is reduced based upon the size and location of the decay, as well as the geometry of the cross section.

The mechanical module of the Arbotom® software calculates relative strength loss. The measurement can help in making informed tree management decisions.

The mechanical analysis module is included with all Arbotom models.

Battery Pack

3x faster charging (fully charged in 2.5 hours) and 40% lighter (1.55kg) than previous model Communicates via bluetooth, wifi, or USB cable

~50m data transmission distance
